For many years he and his wife Jil Bourton had Mount Barker Saddlery where they manufactured as much of their saddlery stock as they could, employing tradesmen and apprentices. The business was sold in 1990 and since then Pip has concentrated on making horse rugs. A commitment to quality of materials and workmanship has always been priority number one.

The fit of the rug and therefore the comfort of the horse is the other factor driving Pips approach to the design of his rugs.
